Abstract: Fertility rates and trends in Kenya and Ghana are presented. Total fertility rates have declined dramatically over the last 45 years in both countries. This paper will examine the factors associated with these fertility trends, and particularly the role of family planning, and puts forward reasons for their initial similarities and recent differences.
