Percent distribution of women (or men) age 15-49 who have heard of female circumcision by opinion on whether their religion requires female circumcision.

Numerators:

Number of women (or men) age 15-49 who have heard of female circumcision (women: g100 = 1 or g101 = 1; men: mg100 = 1 or mg101 = 1) by whether their religion requires female circumcision:

1)      Required (women: g118 = 1; men: mg118 = 1)

2)      Not required (women: g118 = 0; men: mg118 = 0)

 

Denominator: Number of women (or men) age 15-49 who have heard of circumcision (women: g100 = 1 or g101 = 1; men: mg100 = 1 or mg101 = 1)

Calculation

 

Numerator divided by the denominator, multiplied by 100. All categories and the “don’t know/missing” responses add up to 100 percent.

 

Handling of Missing Values

 

Missing values are included with “don’t know” responses and included in a separate category as well as in the denominator.
