The UHEAS included a national representative sample of 2,333 men age 15-59 and 5,463 women age 15-49. Over 30 percent of men and 28 percent of women are overweight or obese. Obese men and women were significantly more likely to have hypertension than adults with a normal body mass index (BMI). This finding remained even after controlling for various background and risk factors. The study found no consistent association between obesity and physical activity or alcohol use.
