Abstract: This study analyses the utilisation of three types of maternal health services: prenatal care, place of delivery and professional assistance at delivery. Data for this study are drawn from the National Family Health Survey, India carried out during 1998-1999. It covers 99% of India's population living in all 26 states. The result of the analyses reveal that education of women, standard of living and media exposure are important factors in determining increased utilisation of maternal health care in rural and urban areas
