Online Course

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
The USAID-funded Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) Program is searching for potential participants to take part in the DHS Health Data Mapping Online Course that will be held from February 27 to May 11, 2023.
 
This online course will focus on the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in public health, specifically using maps for better program and policy decision making. This course introduces participants to data concepts including management and cleaning of data in Microsoft Excel, using maps as part of the decision-making process, introduction to GIS concepts, and hands-on introduction to QGIS, an open-source GIS software package. Please note that this course is an introductory course designed for users with no previous GIS experience.
 
Eligibility and Requirements
Interested applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Must live and work in Cambodia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, or Timor-Leste
  • Must be able to understand and communicate in English. (To be assessed by reviewing a write-up detailing what the applicant plans to do with the skills learned from this course.)
  • Must have at least an undergraduate degree in public health, demography, statistics, monitoring & evaluation, or a related subject, as well as basic training in statistics.
  • Should be early- to mid-career professionals.
  • Preference will be given to individuals working in Ministries of Health and National Bureaus of Statistics. Professionals working in public health and/or demographic research will also be considered.
  • Must be comfortable using and have access to Microsoft Excel.
  • Should have no previous experience using a GIS software (such as ArcGIS or QGIS).
  • Must be able to commit 2-4 hours a week for the course and 3 virtual sessions which will be 2 hours each.
