The dissemination of DHS, SPA and HIV data is often widely covered by media in survey countries, but journalists also use The DHS Program data throughout the year as background information for their stories, or to compare health and development indicators across countries. Ugandas shocking HIV prevalence rates revealed

Shocking HIV prevalence rates has been revealed by the 2011 Uganda AIDS Indicator Survey. A total of 3.7% of women and men aged 15 to 24 are HIV positive, with prevalence among females markedly higher than among males. This is the case apart from within teenagers between 15 to 17-years-old, the youngest age bracket of this group, where prevalence is slightly higher in males...

In Uganda condom use infrequent despite rising HIV rates

...Only 36.2 percent of women and 52.9 percent of men between 20 and 24 used a condom during their last sexual intercourse in the past 12 months, according to the National AIDS Indicator Survey, launched on 18 September. Among those who had more than two partners in the past 12 months, only 23.4 percent of women and 30 percent of men reported using a condom during their last intercourse. The research also reveals that a majority of young Ugandans lack comprehensive knowledge about HIV; just 39 percent of men and women aged 15 to 24 have all the facts on how HIV is spread and how it can be prevented...
