Dataset Terms of Use
 
The DHS Program is authorized to distribute datasets for legitimate academic research.  
 
Here are the general terms of use for DHS/MIS/AIS/SPA datasets:
 
  • The requested data should only be used for the registered research or study.
  • To use the data for another purpose, a new research project should be submitted using the “Create A New Project” link in your user account. 
  • All data should be treated as confidential, and no effort should be made to identify any household or individual respondent interviewed in the survey.
  • The data sets must not be passed on to other researchers without the written consent of The DHS Program.
  • Users are required to submit a copy of any reports/publications resulting from using the data files to: archive@dhsprogram.com.
 
Here are the terms of use for GPS datasets:
  • No attempt will be made to identify or contact survey respondents.
  • No results will be published where communities or individuals can be identified.
  • The data will be kept on a secure computer where they cannot be accessed by unauthorized users.
  • The data will not be used for any purpose other than the above study.
  • The data will not be released to anyone other than the above listed researchers without the prior approval of ICF.
  • The data will not be used for any marketing activity.
  • The use of the data by researchers in the United States will comply with the USAID Regulations for Protection of Human Research Subjects (22 CFR 225); and use of the data by researchers outside of the United States will comply with the Declaration of Helsinki and/or the International Ethical Guidelines of the Council of International Organizations of Medical Sciences for Biomedical Research Involving Human Subjects.
  • Users are requested to submit an electronic or hard copy of any reports/publications resulting from using the DHS data files.
 
Here are the terms of use for HIV datasets:
  • I agree not to try to identify any specific survey respondents.
  • I agree to keep the data files in a secure location where they cannot be accessed by unauthorized users
  • I agree not to release the data to anyone without the prior approval of ICF.
  • I agree not to use the data for any marketing or commercial venture.
 
Here are the terms of use for Bangladesh datasets:
  • To keep the data files in a secure location to prevent unauthorized use.
  • To send a copy of any publication, paper, article, report and/or book based on the data, to: NIPORT Library, NIPORT, Azimpur, Dhaka-1205, Bangladesh; email: niportru@citechco.net.
 
Here are the terms of use for Cambodia datasets:
  • To keep the data files in a secure location to prevent unauthorized use.
  • To send ten (10) copies of any publication, paper, article, report and/or book based on the data, to: National Institute of Statistics/MOH, 386 Monivong Bd., Phnom Penh, Cambodia
 
Here are the terms of use for Vietnam datasets:
  • To keep the data files in a secure location to prevent unauthorized use.
  • To submit any paper, article, report and/or book based on the Vietnam 2005 data, to NIHE & GSO for approval, prior to publication:
