Model Datasets

The DHS Program has created model datasets so users can become familiar with datasets without having to register for access. These datasets have been created strictly for practice and do not represent any country's actual data. Model datasets are based on the DHS 6 Questionnaire and Recode. The newest additions to this list are the geospatial datasets.

The model datasets are designed to include a wide variety of survey characteristics and topics including:

  • Alcohol Consumption
  • Anemia Questions
  • Anthropometry
  • Birth Registration
  • Calendar
  • Child Labor
  • Cooking Fuel
  • Domestic Violence
  • Female Genital Cutting
  • Health Insurance
  • HIV Behavior
  • HIV Knowledge
  • HIV Testing
  • Malaria Module including Bednet Inventory
  • Malaria and Bednet Questions
  • Malaria Parasitemia
  • Male Circumcision
  • Maternal Mortality
  • Man's Survey
  • Tobacco Use
  • Vitamin A Questions
  • Women's Status
  • Geospatial Data

Model datasets can be used for many different purposes. Users can practice replicating standard final report tables or try calculating complex indicators. Model datasets can be used by professors and trainers to standardly teach statistical concepts and procedures. Let us know how you're using the model datasets by emailing modeldatasets@dhsprogram.com

Unlike datasets for specific surveys, users do NOT need to register in order to gain access. Users can pick and choose which data files to download. Users can also download a full set of final report tables and sampling errors to check their work. Learn more>>

The DHS Program User Forum

The DHS Program User Forum is a place for dataset users to ask and answer questions about datasets and analysis. Search the User Forum to find answers or become a registered member to post a question.
